Chloramphenicol
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic widely used in the world in the past. Several health problems are related to its use. As a consequence, several countries (e.g. U.S.A, E.U, Canada…) have prohibited its use for food-producing animals. However, due to its broad spectrum of activity and its availability, Chloramphenicol is still used in several countries to treat food-producing animals. Therefore, chloramphenicol analysis is still a current affair. As no permitted limit has been established, E.U. has defined a Minimum Required Performance Limit (MRPL) set at 0.3µg/kg for products of animal origin (Commission decision 2003/181/EC).
In addition, food matrices are very complexes and induce ion-suppression phenomena which distort analysis results. For such a low MRPL threshold, a cleanup step is crucial in order to improve the sensitivity, the reliability and the specificity before analysis. It is therefore critical to develop a highly selective and sensitive analytical assay to control and monitor Chloramphenicol residues in difficult matrices such as food stuffs.

Application note: Selective Solid Phase Extraction of Chloramphenicol from shrimp using AFFINIMIP®SPE
Shrimp
We demonstrate in this application note that a reliable quantification of Chloramphenicol from shrimp (recoveries>95%) using AFFINIMIP® SPE Chloramphenicol and a single quadrupole mass detection is possible. UV Chromatograms demonstrate as well a perfect cleanup and a very low background at the retention time of Chloramphenicol.

Bovine urine
This study demonstrates a reliable quantification of Chloramphenicol from bovine urine (recoveries >90%) using AFFINIMIP® SPE Chloramphenicol and even a single quadrupole mass detection.

Application note: Selective Solid Phase Extraction for Chloramphenicol Analysis from Honey using AFFINIMIP®SPE
Honey matrices
This study describes the solid phase extraction of Chloramphenicol from Honey at Minimum Required Performance Limits (MRPLs) of 0.3µg/kg as defined by European Commission decision 2003/181/EC. We demonstrate in this application note that a reliable quantification of Chloramphenicol at low concentrations using AFFINIMIP® SPE Chloramphenicol and single quadrupole mass spectrometry detection is possible. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the clean-up: high recovery yield (> 90%), a good repeatability and reproducibility were obtained.

Application note: Selective Solid Phase Extraction for Chloramphenicol Analysis from Milk using AFFINIMIP®SPE
Milk matrices
This study describes the solid phase extraction of Chloramphenicol from Milk at 22ng/mL. We demonstrate in this application note that a reliable quantification of Chloramphenicol at low concentrations and single quadrupole mass spectrometry detection is possible using AFFINIMIP® SPE Chloramphenicol (1mL or 3mL). The results demonstrate the efficiency of the clean-up: high recovery yield (> 85%) and a good repeatability.
